About Gandona Winery

With roots back from Douro Portugal, the Gandona family started this winery in 2006. Located in Pritchard Hill, the winery overlooks Lake Hennessey and Napa Valley. They grow all of the grapes used in their wines, and use a traditional old world European methods. The winery was named after their grandfather, Gandona, which translates to “humble man” in Portuguese.

If you plan on visiting, be sure to plan ahead because it can take a while to drive all the way up the hill to get to the winery. That way you aren’t late to your reservation. And you will want a few minutes to take in the views before you start your visit as well.

Gandona Winery Review

Kelly met us right away when we arrived and was ready with a fantastic tasting experience for our party of 4. Right away the view is so unbelievable that it’s hard to concentrate on the beautiful building where we had the actual tasting. It was a very cloudy when when we were there, but still a million dollar view. Thankfully the wine matches the views.

Everything was top notch and we would definitely visit again. The prices are pretty expensive, and geared more towards collectors or for wines to drink during special occasions. The quality of the wines match the prices, we just wish we could afford to drink their wines more often!

Insider Tip: There is a very friendly cat that lives at the estate. So be sure to make arrangements ahead of time if you are allergic. Nobody in our party was, so we didn’t mind the cat at all. But we thought it was worth mentioning to new visitors.

Insider Tip #2: The winery is located above the boat launch of the lake, where there are picnic tables. We packed our lunch for the day and ate there, which worked perfectly.

Gandona Winery Wines Offered

This small producer only has 5 wines available for purchase currently. This changes over time on what is offered, but still a relatively small selection. They have both estate and library selections for most of these, but quantities are very limited. We were able to try everything they offered, and our favorite was the Encosta Cabernet. We are also huge port fanatics, and their port was fantastic as well!

Gandona Chardonnay

Gandona Cabernet Sauvignon

Encosta Cabernet Sauvignon

Gandona Estate “Fraga do Arco” (Port)

Meia – changes year to year on which grapes are used.
