Castoro Cellars Winery Review
Castoro Cellars ended up being one of our favorite winery stops from our trip. The grounds were beautiful, the wines were excellent, the prices were very fair, and the disc golf course through the vineyard made the visit feel completely different from a typical tasting room experience.
Castoro Cellars at a Glance
Best For
Wine drinkers who want great wine, a relaxed patio, beautiful grounds, good value, and something fun to do beyond tasting.
What Stands Out
The vineyard disc golf course, shaded patio, friendly tasting server, strong wine club value, and excellent red wines.
Favorite Wines
Our group especially liked the Zinfusion and Tempranillo.
Would We Go Back?
Yes. We bought bottles, joined the wine club, and would absolutely visit again.
A Beautiful, Relaxed Winery That Won Us Over
Castoro Cellars was one of the nicest winery properties we visited on our trip. The estate area felt beautiful without feeling pretentious, which is exactly the kind of winery atmosphere I enjoy most. It had a casual, relaxed, friendly feeling instead of the overly polished or intimidating vibe some wineries can have.
The patio area was the part that stood out the most. It was shaded, somewhat protected from the wind, and surrounded by gardens that made the space feel like the patio of a mansion. The building itself was nice, but the outdoor seating and landscaping were what really made the visit memorable.
We also loved the unique grapevine succulent planters around the patio. That is a small detail, but it added a lot of personality and made the property feel more thoughtful.
The Visit Started Rough, But the Tasting Server Saved It
The only negative part of our visit was the initial interaction with the hostess. We had emailed ahead of time to schedule a visit and asked if we could play nine holes of disc golf before doing a tasting. When we arrived, she told us that would not be possible, even though the winery did not appear busy at the time.
She explained that they were short staffed and had other guests scheduled, but from our perspective there seemed to be more people working than guests present. It was confusing and not the most welcoming start to the experience.
Thankfully, another server overheard us asking again after disc golf and said he would happily fit us in. I do not remember his name, but he completely changed the tone of the visit. He was knowledgeable, friendly, made the tasting feel fun, and even stayed a few minutes late to help us take group pictures.
His service was excellent. If we were rating only him, he would get a 5 out of 5.

The Vineyard Disc Golf Course Is a Great Idea
One of the most unique things about Castoro Cellars is the disc golf course that runs through the vineyard. Half of our group had never played before, the weather was perfect, and we ended up having a great time.
You do have to drive from the tasting room to the disc golf course, but it is very close by, so that was not a big deal. I love the idea because it lets guests spend time in the vineyard in a more active and memorable way instead of only standing at a tasting bar or sitting on a patio.
Insider Tip:
Wear good walking shoes if you plan to play disc golf. A few people in our group wore sandals, and it was not easy for them to get around the course.
Castoro Cellars Wines We Tried
We tried several red wines during our tasting, and our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained that their wines are pressed earlier than normal so they do not have as strong of tannins. That made the wines smoother, which our group really enjoyed.
We put a star next to the wines our group tasted during the visit. Our favorites were the Zinfusion and the Tempranillo.
The biggest compliment I can give is that we did not just taste and leave. We bought bottles to take home and joined the wine club.
We Joined the Wine Club Because the Value Was That Good
Castoro Cellars’ wine club stood out as one of the best values we saw. At the time of our visit, you could get six bottles shipped for $120, including shipping. That works out to about $20 per bottle, which we thought was a fantastic value for wines we genuinely enjoyed.
Joining the wine club is probably the clearest sign of how much we liked the wines. We are not going to sign up for a club just to be polite. We joined because the wine quality and price made sense.
About Castoro Cellars
Castoro Cellars was established in 1983 and produces a wide range of red and white wines. What I found interesting is that the owners took a somewhat backwards path into winemaking. They started by making and selling wine first, then purchased their equipment, winery, and tasting room, and later began buying land, planting vineyards, and farming their own fruit.
The vineyard was established in 1990. Today, Castoro has more than 1,400 acres of vineyards that are certified organic and SIP Certified, which stands for Sustainable in Practice. They now produce roughly 30,000 to 40,000 cases per year.
Even with that scale, the winery did not feel corporate or impersonal during our visit. It still felt friendly, relaxed, and welcoming once we got into the actual tasting.

Castoro Cellars Is Absolutely Worth Visiting
Castoro Cellars was one of our favorite winery visits from the trip. The hostess experience could have been better, but the tasting server, wines, patio, grounds, disc golf course, gift shop, and wine club value more than made up for it. We would absolutely go back.
Real Winery Reviews From Our Own Visits
My winery reviews are based on places we have personally visited. I focus on the full experience, including the setting, tasting room, service, wines, prices, and whether I would recommend the winery to other everyday wine drinkers.
For Castoro Cellars, the biggest takeaways were the beautiful patio, relaxed atmosphere, excellent wines, great value, unique disc golf experience, and the fact that our group bought bottles and joined the wine club after tasting.

Frisbee golf, wine tasting, beautiful location and space. It was a fantastic day for our group. We were all really glad we visited and had so much fun there. Would definitely recommend to others to visit. We also joined their wine club, which is a fantastic value!
