About Hope Family Wines
Hope Family Wines has been making high quality wines in the Paso Robles region for over 30 years. The family owns several different labels including Liberty School, Treana, Quest, Austin Hope, & Troublemaker. This allows the winery to create wines for any wine lover, from beginners on a budget to wine connoisseurs who tend to spend $50+ a bottle. You can find many of their labels nationwide at restaurants, tasting rooms and stores that sell wine. Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is probably their most well-known and most popular wine they make, and you can usually find that being served in high end steakhouses and restaurants.
The winery is SIP Certified (sustainable in practice), which means they follow a rigorous sustainable vineyard, winery, and wine certification. The standards are based on science and expert input, independent verification, transparency and absence of conflict of interest. Being SIP Certified means that both natural and human resources are protected. In addition to being SIP certified, Hope Family Wines only purchases grapes from other growers who are also SIP certified. They’ve also created wildlife corridors on their property to have a place for native quail, deer, wild boars and other wildlife in the area can pass through.
Austin Hope Winery Review
Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is one of our favorite wines back home in Nebraska, and what made us want to visit Paso Robles. We wanted to see if we could find other wines we liked just as much from the same region. During our tasting, there wasn’t 1 wine we didn’t like, but some did stand out to us for sure. We ended up purchasing a case of the Syrah, which is something we can’t get at home.
Be on the lookout for two different bottles that have a great backstory to them. The label is a painting from two different elephants, which is pretty cool and unique. Hopefully if you visit, you will get to hear the details about those bottles as well!
Our visit to the winery was absolutely fantastic. We were a little worried that our experience wouldn’t be as personal since it’s such a well-known brand. But the staff was extremely friendly, helpful and unassuming. We asked several questions during the tasting, and the staff was very patient and knowledgeable and took their time to truly answer our questions. In the end, we were very glad we visited because we found new wines that we really liked from them, and will definitely be purchasing more cases in the near future!

Insider Tip: We felt a little rushed to leave our spot (the outdoor cabana, which was very nice) when our tasting was over. We booked on a Saturday and the tasting room is booked solid back to back. So we recommend making reservations during a slower weekday if you are planning on a more relaxed visit. The wonderful staff was very accommodating to store our stuff while we explored the area and took pictures.
Hope Family Wines Offered
All of the wines we tasted were very smooth and silky on the palate, which is something we tend to like over wines with a lot of bite to them. We were actually told that their wines are meant to be enjoyed young and don’t necessarily have to age them because they are so smooth at a young age. The staff said that aging the wines will actually reduce the fruitiness of the wines, but won’t make the wines any smoother. So there isn’t any advantage to aging the wine unless you don’t like the fruit forward taste. We put a star next to the wines we tried during our stay, with a bonus at the end. Each guest gets a glass of Rosé when you walk in, which is a nice way to get things started.

Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is one of our favorite wines, so we just had to visit this place. Our visit was absolutely wonderful and exceeded our very high expectations. Austin Hope was the reason why we visited Paso Robles, and we were happy we did. And bonus, we found a few new wines we liked from there that we aren’t able to get locally, so it was totally worth visiting for us!
